VR technologies allow rendering computer generated product and process models and their physical properties as well as interacting with them in real time. Thus, for example, products’ physical properties (forces, temperatures or fields) can be represented together with their geometric properties. Complex information such as the results of simulations, operating conditions and machine sequences is represented and recorded easily and intuitively and weak points in a design are spotted early on, enabling designers to optimize their products in an early stage of design. VR technologies are an important interdisciplinary communication aid particularly in the development of complex products involving different specialists.
