Virtual technologies also hold impressive potentials for medical engineering. Fraunhofer researchers are developing virtual simulation systems to train surgeons both in minimally invasive and, in the future, interventional surgery as well. This is intended to enable planning operations individually and training for them beforehand. The Fraunhofer IFF’s specialists are collaborating with their colleagues from Magdeburg University Hospital and Otto von Guericke University in the project ViERforES, one of four project in the Virtual Technologies Innovation Alliance being funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
