Fraunhofer IFF Hosts "Jugend forscht" State Competition
Viva la curiosité! Research fever has broken out again in Saxony-Anhalt's schools, vocational training centers and universities. November 30 was the deadline to register for the youth science and technology competition "Jugend forscht und Schüler experimentieren". Interested young people with projects for the latest round of competition should have registered by then.
Parallel to the national trend, the number of projects submitted to the forty-third round of competition rose slightly in Saxony-Anhalt too. Altogether 229 contestants registered 130 projects in seven disciplines: Working World, Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Sciences, Mathematic/Computer Science, Physics and Engineering. There are no specified tasks. Contestants develop an interesting problem on their own and independently search for solutions.
The new round of competition is also a very special challenge for the sponsoring company E.ON Avacon. After ten years of sponsoring one of the three regional elimination rounds in Saxony-Anhalt, E.ON Avacon will be sponsoring the state competition for the first time in the coming year. This will be held at the Fraunhofer Institute in Magdeburg on April 1 and 2.
“We are looking forward to this new challenge,” say Director of Human Resources Peter Hecke, underscoring the importance of the competition. “We have to recognize and cultivate young people’s talents if we intend to be able to deal with future challenges. Above all, we want to systematically cultivate young talent in the field of science and technology. The competition “Jugend forscht” is an excellent framework for doing so.”
