HILAS Human Integration in the Life Cycle of Aviation Systems
The project HILAS supported by the European Commission in its 6th Framework Programme involves forty European and international partners from the aviation industry that will be working on the integration of so-called human factors from June 2005 to June 2009.
Lead management is in the hands of APRG (Aeronautics Psychology Research Group) of Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. A logical further development of the research work in the past years – on everything related with human factors – is the development of a model of best practice to integrate human factors in the life cycle of aviation systems.
The project involves four parallel paths of work:
- Integration and management of knowledge about human factors in aviation,
- Air traffic and performance,
- Flight deck technology and
- Maintenance.
In the project, the Fraunhofer IFF in Magdeburg is developing new approaches and software solutions to improve aircraft maintenance. A basic starting point is linking the organization and communication of maintenance processes and training, incorporating human factors in particular, and integrating analysis and inspection tools in the maintenance process.
