Supported by the EU as part of its Marie Curie Action, a training program for young researchers started at the Fraunhofer IFF Virtual Development and Training Centre VDTC in December 2005.

The objective of ResearchTraining@VDTC is to give twelve young researchers from inside and outside Europe an opportunity at the Fraunhofer IFF to collaborate on international research projects or gather practical experience in industry projects. Stays of up to three years are being offered, which, depending on the duration and a researcher's interests, may be concluded with a Master's or a doctorate. The program's thematic focus encompasses applied virtual engineering. Trainees may choose from three thematic fields: virtual product development, virtual process engineering and virtual-interactive training. Along with attending courses and collaborating on projects, trainees also perform research in the Fraunhofer IFF's LogmotionLab and VR lab. Training is supplemented by soft skills modules, language courses and conference attendance. The training program is organized in cooperation with Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and regional industry partners.
